CLONING human beings will become illegal in Slovakia according to a prepared draft of the country's rewritten criminal law.

Members of the cabinet's legal committee, led by Justice Minister Daniel Lipšic, agreed on April 15 that anyone who carries out any steps directed towards the artificial creation of a human in any stage of its development that is genetically identical to another human being would face punishment of up to eight years in jail.

Among other changes the draft contains is the introduction of a penal policy entitled "three strikes and you're out".

The measure will enable judges to send repeat violent offenders who committed crimes such as murder, armed robbery, rape, human trafficking, terror, and kidnapping, to jail for life without parole.
