Kukan and Mečiar continue leading polls; Gašparovič closes gap

THE LATEST poll by the MVK agency suggests that Slovak Democratic and Christian Union candidate Eduard Kukan and Movement for Democracy chairman Ivan Gašparovič would make it to the second round of presidential elections on April 3. Kukan would get the support of 31 percent of respondents while 21.1 percent would vote for Gašparovič.

Movement for a Democratic Slovakia boss Vladimír Mečiar would get 20.5 percent, followed by former Slovak ambassador to the United States Martin Bútora with 8.5 percent. Incumbent President Rudolf Schuster would end up with 7.7 percent, followed by Christian Democratic Movement candidate Fratišek Mikloško with 7.3 percent.

According to the latest UVVM poll, Kukan would win the elections with 27.6 percent, followed by Meciar with 26 percent and Gašparovič with 18.1 percent. Mikloško would get 7.6 percent.
