An exhibition called Egypt – the Gift to Nile opened in the Slovak Technological Museum (STM) in Košice in mid August, giving visitors an opportunity to become more acquainted with one of the most significant ancient civilisations. Ján Hertlík of Pezinok, a traveller and collector, is the owner and creator of the exhibit. He told the TASR newswire that he has dedicated most of his leisure time to his biggest hobby – amateur study of Egyptology.
His second hobby is travelling and in addition to memories, he brings home from his adventure-filled travels replicas of historical items that he later adapts, using various techniques, to a true-to-reality state. Hertlík started building his unconventional collection in 2002.
At the museum in Košice he is exhibiting 340 items such as various kinds of sculptures, busts of emperors, generals, and gods as well as paintings and other works of art evoking the atmosphere of ancient Egypt. The exhibition runs until September 23.
