On Thursday, September 2, Smer, the largest party in Slovakia’s parliament, will submit a proposal to dismiss Speaker of Parliament Richard Sulík (SaS party) from his post, said Robert Fico, the chairman of Smer and a Deputy Speaker of Parliament to the TASR newswire.

“It will be submitted in a way so that it should be discussed next week during an ordinary parliamentary session,” Fico said, adding that he thinks parliament is currently chaired by “a person who doesn’t show respect for anything and shouldn’t be sitting there”.

According to Fico, Sulík “doesn’t meet the basic requirements to be able to chair Slovakia's top legislative body”.

“Mr. Fico and the Smer party have a right to engage in this activity. If the conditions required by the debate protocol are met, Parliament will, of course, deal with this proposal,” Sulík's secretary, Tatiana Tóthoví, told TASR in response.
