GENERAL Prosecutor Dobroslav Trnka will testify before the parliamentary committee for human rights and ethnic minorities about his findings in the case of Hedviga Malinová dating back to 2006. Peter Zajac from Most-Híd party requested that Trnka appear before the committee, the SITA newswire reported.

Zajac said the Malinová case is very important and members of the committee should be aware of the status of the investigation.

Hedviga Malinová is an ethnic Hungarian Slovak who says she was attacked in Nitra in 2006 in an ethnically motivated attack when she was heard speaking Hungarian on a public street. Government ministers and police subsequently claimed that she had fabricated the story, despite her injuries.

Zajac criticised Trnka when the parliamentary committee discussed the Annual Report of the Office of the General Prosecutor for 2009, SITA wrote.

Zajac said the prosecutor’s office acted promptly in some cases, was inactive in others, and that some cases were “swept under the carpet”.
