An extended overhaul is a planned activity that takes place in four-year cycles. About 1,500 people worked on the overhaul of the second unit. The first and second units of EMO have an installed capacity of 470 megawatts.

The first unit has supplied electricity to the grid since the summer of 1998 and the second unit since the end of 1999. Each unit in Mochovce annually produces about 3,000 gigawatt hours of electricity which covers nearly ten percent of electricity consumption in Slovakia.
