DURING 2010, the Slovak media market witnessed the arrival of a Slovak edition of the international business magazine Forbes, and the departure of the weekly magazine Markíza.

Two issues of the Slovak Forbes were published in 2010 and the third issue was scheduled for publication on January 7, 2011.

At the same time the Slovak media market saw the disappearance of Žurnál, whose last issue was published in December 2009, and Markíza, in June 2010. Their publishers halted both magazines due to insufficient advertising income.

New magazines will continue to arrive in 2011. Three new magazines on cooking and gardening began publication in Slovakia as of January 4, 2011. All three are already well-established in the Czech Republic, where they have been published for five years, the TASR newswire wrote.

Their publisher, Genius Press, is crossing the borders of the Czech Republic for the first time.
