SOME businesses in Slovakia are repackaging foreign-origin poultry even though they are not authorised to do this, according to several inspections initiated by the Agriculture Ministry, the SITA newswire reported.
Poultry originating in Poland that had been repackaged with labels saying it was of Slovak origin was found in two businesses, Hydina Košice and Podtatranská Hydina, based on special inspections conducted in January. Neither company had the necessary authorisation to do so.
“I'm not saying that consumers' health was endangered but consumers were misled regarding what product they were buying, [believing] that they were buying a Slovak product when it was actually a Polish one,” said Agriculture Minister Zsolt Simon, as quoted by SITA.
