Bratislava Waterworks Company (BVS) general director Daniel Gemeran says he is not responsible for the worsening state of the company. “Responsibility lies with those who pass and carry out regulatory policies in practice,” BVS said in a press statement issued to the media on Tuesday, January 25.
Given the difficult regulatory conditions, Gemeran said, the company is actually quite healthy. Newly elected Bratislava City mayor Milan Ftáčnik levelled criticism at BVS top management last week. He cited a suspicious increase in output and reduction in revenues at the company, the majority shareholder in which is the City of Bratislava. The mayor called on Gemeran to resign from his post but he refused.
According to the Report on Water Policy, the cumulative loss in the industry in 2009 reached more than €7 million, with BVS’s share equalling €122,000 (1.7 percent). Ftáčnik is continuing to stand by his public statements, the TASR newswire learned from his spokesman Ľubomír Andrássy on Tuesday.
