The Slovak economy grew by 4 percent year-on-year in 2010, according to a preliminary estimate published by the Statistics Office on Tuesday, February 15. In 2009, Slovakia's economy contracted by 4.7 percent.

According to the Statistics Office, gross domestic product (GDP) in the final quarter of 2010 reached €17.019 billion, which represents 3.5-percent growth y-o-y. This was the slowest rate of growth of all quarters of last year, however, with GDP growth decelerating continuously in 2010 from quarter to quarter. GDP grew by 4.7 percent y-o-y in 1Q10, by 4.2 percent in 2Q10, and by 3.8 percent in 3Q10. When seasonal influences are taken into account, the Slovak economy produced goods and services worth €12.615 billion in 4Q10, representing 3.4-percent growth y-o-y, the TASR newswire wrote. A more exact estimate will be published by the Statistics Office on March 3.
