Figeľ: EC cautious about reallocation between programmes

The European Commission is not very positive about Slovakia's plan to swap financial resources among EU operational programmes (OPs, administered by Slovak ministries) to collect more money to use on motorway construction, according to Transport Minister Ján Figeľ, who met EC Secretary-General Catherine Day in Brussels on Tuesday to discuss the country's plan.

"The commission is, according to Catherine Day, reserved about the idea of reallocations between various operational programmes, but they're more open to discussion on transfers within the Transport Operational Programme," said Figeľ, as quoted by the TASR newswire. Reallocations under the Transport OP alone could bring some €250 million for Slovakia to use on national motorway network improvements, while transfers from other OPs – if approved by the commission – could bring another €300 million.
