Nigerian national Raymond Ofoedu, who was detained last year at Bratislava Airport after his stomach was found to contain capsules containing drugs, has been sentenced to twelve years in prison for drug smuggling, the SITA newswire reported.
The Regional Court Bratislava turned down his appeal against his conviction by a first-instance court on March 22, and confirmed the verdict. Upon completion of his sentence, Ofoedu will be expelled from Slovakia and barred from re-entry for ten years.
Ofoedu demanded an interpreter to his mother tongue of Igbo and claimed he did not understand the legal English used. He presented his closing speech in Igbo.
