TRDLOFEST honours one of Slovakia’s typical ca-kes, Skalica trdelník, which was acknowledged as “the first Slovak geographical brand” by the European Commission in October 2007. The festival takes place each year in the town’s Franciscan garden and this year it was held on May 14. Since 2005, the festival has attempted to set a world record for the longest version of this cake made of walnuts, baked on a long wooden rod (trdlo) over an open fire. This year the cake reached 193 centimetres .
Next year, the residents of Skalica plan an attempt to make a 200-centimetres-long trdelník and they will try to have it registered in the Guinness Book of Records.
They should know the answer from the London headquarters of the Guinness Publishing House by the beginning of next year.
