On the night of June 11, Banská Štiavnica – a city known more for its mining history than for its wild night life – was, as they say, really rocking. It was night of what sponsoring “Tour de Pubs” called the “zero year,” a trial for a whole new concept in partying. The evening was set up as a kind of contest.
Here’s how it worked: ten local pubs agreed to discount their prices on food and drink to anybody who wanted to participate. Contestants could eat and drink as much as they wanted but to win the prizes they had hit all ten pubs. Each contestant got a map, an entry card and a T-shirt.
To win anything you had to get a stamp from every pub. To make it even more challenging the pubs devised individualised programmes to try to persuade participants to stay in their pub. Winners received an “Expert on Štiavnica Pubs” T-shirt.
