Retail sales in Slovakia continue to lag behind last year's reported levels with the latest data from the Slovak Statistics Office showing retail sales in May 2011 reached €1.432 billion, down 3.5 percent y-o-y, the SITA newswire reported. In April, sales were 0.3 percent lower than a year earlier. The office reported that retail sales had last registered an increase in June 2010.
The Statistics Office reported lower retail sales of fuels in specialized outlets (-15.6 percent), retail sales of foodstuffs (-6.8 percent), sales outside stores, stalls and markets (-5.2 percent) and other retail sales (-2.3 percent).
The only growth in retail sales was seen in ICT equipment in specialized outlets – which increased by 4 percent.
