Over a hundred Slovaks who have chosen to in other countries gathered at the Memorial of Slovak Emigration in Bratislava's Janko Kráľ Park on Tuesday, July 5 to mark the Day of Slovaks Living Abroad, which falls on July 5, the same day that the country commemorates the two Apostles - Saints Cyril and Methodius.
"This is an opportunity for Slovaks to make connections with their expatriate Slovaks living in other countries," Milan Vetrák, the chairman of the Bureau for Slovaks Living Abroad, told the TASR newswire. He added that relations between expatriates and their home country remain positive. Unlike last year, when only a small group of people came to the annual meeting, over a hundred attended this time. The foundation stone of the Memorial of Slovak Emigration was laid in Bratislava in the year 2000. The red marble stone is 3,000 years old and weighs 4.5 tonnes.
