The Interior Ministry’s inspectorate is investigating two police officers for alleged idleness during a beating that took place in Zemianske Sady in Trnava Region on July 10, Michal Hanuš, the Trnava Regional Police Directorate spokesman, told the TASR newswire.
Joj TV on July 11 reported that a group of men arrived at the house of a local resident in Zemianske Sady at 17:00 with the apparent intention of settling some scores with the resident. A bystander reproached the men for being too noisy.
Video footage from a security camera on a neighbouring house posted on the websites of noviny.sk and sme.sk appears to show that the men subsequently beat up the man. The police patrol that then arrived on the scene did not intervene and the video shows the officers apparently being addressed by the aggressors by first names.
The police spokesman reported that the man who was attacked suffered a moderate concussion, one wound to his face and a nose fracture.
The regional police director initiated dismissal proceeding against the officers but they are not being suspended until the case is properly investigated, the Sme daily wrote. Individuals within the group of men are known to the police and they have been investigated in the past for non-violent crimes and misdemeanours, Sme wrote.
