Police nab drunken bicyclists

THREE bicyclists with high concentrations of alcohol in the blood were detained by police officers from Nové Mesto nad Váhom during one of their night shifts at the beginning of May.

THREE bicyclists with high concentrations of alcohol in the blood were detained by police officers from Nové Mesto nad Váhom during one of their night shifts at the beginning of May.

The spokesperson for the Trenčín Regional Police Directorate, Elena Antalová, told the TASR newswire that one cyclist stopped by the police on Beckovská Street recorded 3.1 per mille of alcohol in his blood while another cyclist on Lesnícka Street, both in Nové Mesto nad Váhom, had 2.73 per mille when stopped by officers just before midnight.

“The record-holder, however, was a cyclist from Nová Bošáca caught after midnight. Officers stopped him on the 1st class road between Nové Mesto nad Váhom and Trenčianske Bohuslavice to check his alcohol level and in the breath test he recorded 3.58 per mille of alcohol,” Antalová said, noting that all three drunken bicyclists face fines up to €800.
