Artists and self-employed,as well as small-sized businesses have joined forces in the battle against government plans to reform the tax & levy system, the SITA newswire wrote. On Monday, August 15, representatives of the these groups agreed a Declaration on Common Steps, opposing more tax and levy hikes.

By signing the declaration, the chairman of the Slovak Craft Chamber, Vojtech Gottschall, the president of the Slovak Craft Association, Stanislav Čižmárik, and the president of the Slovak Association of Small Enterprises, Vladimír Sirotka, threw their weight behind an initiative launched in late July by artists who are members of the Slovak Coalition for Cultural Diversity. The coalition's chairman, Pavol Kráľ, and Peter Zajac, the leader of the Civic Conservative Party (OKS) – a parliamentary faction made up of four MPs who sit within the parliamentary caucus of coalition party Most-Híd – also added their signatures. It was OKS that originally inspired the artists, who in late July adopted the party's demands regarding the reforms.
