Data published by Slovak jobs website Profesia.sk show that approximately 41 people are currently applying for each job, on average. The most attractive positions are in administration, tourism, gastronomy, the hotel business and the banking sector, the SITA newswire reported.

“In summer 2008, when we made the analysis for the first time, employers on the Slovak labour market lacked employees prepared to start working immediately,” said the head of Profesia, Ivana Molnárová, as quoted by SITA, adding that at that time about nine people were applying for each vacancy.

While the highest numbers of people apply for jobs as waiter/waitress, with 148 applicants per place, secretary, with 136 per place, or receptionist, with about 130 job-seekers, the worst situation is in the IT sector, where only about nine people apply for each job, or telecommunications, where only about 13 people respond to each job ad.

The results also showed that employers got the lowest response in Bratislava Region, where an average of only around 31 people apply for each one, while in Prešov Region, for example, there are approximately 58 applicants for each vacancy.
