Opposition Smer party leader Robert Fico was again found to be the most trustworthy politician in Slovakia according to a poll carried out by the MVK agency, the TASR newswire reported, citing MVK’s Pavel Haulík, on Wednesday, September 7.

Fico was named by 33.2 percent of respondents as the most trustworthy politician, followed by Prime Minister Iveta Radičová (Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ)), on 25.7 percent, and President Ivan Gašparovič, on 18.8 percent. Most-Híd chairman Béla Bugár and Smer MP Robert Kaliňák came in fourth and fifth respectively. The poll, conducted at the end of August and involving 1,038 respondents, found that Slovak National Party (SNS) leader Ján Slota was regarded as the politician who most denigrates the Slovak political scene and causes the most serious problems.

Each respondent was asked to name three politicians who they regarded as trustworthy and, conversely, three politicians they believe cause most damage. About 41 percent of people responded that Slota brings down the quality of Slovak politics most, followed by SDKÚ leader Mikuláš Dzurinda, on 23.9 percent, and Radičová, on 23.3 percent. Finance Minister Ivan Mikloš (SDKÚ) and Fico were in fourth and fifth place respectively.
