Almost two-thirds of Slovak citizens view the current ruling coalition in negative terms, according to a survey released by the MVK polling agency which showed that only 27.3 percent of those who participated in the survey, conducted by the agency between August 23 and August 29, evaluated the activities of the coalition positively, the SITA newswire reported.
Most of those who supported the coalition (80.6 percent) were voters of the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ), followed by the supporters of Most-Híd party (60.1 percent). On the other hand, the ruling coalition was least supported by voters of opposition parties: only 3.2 percent voters of the Slovak National Party (SNS) and 4.5 percent voters of Smer party evaluated the coalition positively.
As many as 71.3 percent of SDKÚ supporters, 70.4 percent of Most-Híd supporters, 68.1 percent of the Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) party voters and 44.4 percent of the Christian Democratic Party (KDH) supporters wanted the ruling coalition to continue. A total of 36.3 percent of KDH voters prefer reconstruction of the coalition while 12.2 percent of Smer supporters and 9.6 percent of SNS voters do not object to the idea of the quartet remaining at Slovakia's helm until the end of this electoral term.
About half of the supporters of opposition parties back the idea of early elections: 49.8 percent of Smer voters and 48.5 percent of SNS supporters. The same opinion was reported by 10.2 percent of KDH voters. As for supporters of the remaining coalition parties, the popularity of this scenario ranged from 3 to 8.1 percent.
The survey found that 44.7 percent of those surveyted wanted Prime Minister Iveta Radičová of SDKÚ to remain in her post, while the same number of recipients said that she should be replaced.
