Slota wins libel lawsuit against 7 Plus publishing house

The Žilina District Court ruled that the 7 Plus publishing house, publisher of the Plus 7 Dní weekly and Plus 1 Deň daily, must pay €3,000 in compensation to SNS chairman Ján Slota based on the libel lawsuit he initiated against the company for an article titled "Does He Fear His Past?" that appeared in Plus 7 Dní weekly on May 2, 2008 as well as for an article published by Plus 1 Deň daily on March 26, 2008, the SITA newswire reported.

The Žilina District Court ruled that the 7 Plus publishing house, publisher of the Plus 7 Dní weekly and Plus 1 Deň daily, must pay €3,000 in compensation to SNS chairman Ján Slota based on the libel lawsuit he initiated against the company for an article titled "Does He Fear His Past?" that appeared in Plus 7 Dní weekly on May 2, 2008 as well as for an article published by Plus 1 Deň daily on March 26, 2008, the SITA newswire reported.

The stories were about car thefts allegedly perpetrated by Slota in Austria when he was young. The court also ruled that the publisher must apologise to Slota for untrue and disparaging statements and that the apologies must include the statement: "The given statements were not true. The company 7 Plus unlawfully violated the legally-protected personal rights of Ján Slota by its steps in question”.

The company was also ordered to remove the electronic versions of the articles from its internet archives, SITA wrote.
