THE TAX administration has registered an increase in the number of electronically-submitted documents this year. According to the Tax Directorate of the Slovak Republic, this positive development is the result of improved accessibility to its internet portal as well as a new application, eTax, which has been installed by more than 97,000 users since March this year, the SITA newswire wrote in May.
“The number of electronically-submitted documents rose, in part due to the better accessibility of the portal and the new application, from 39,012 in 2010 to 166,321 in the comparable period of this year,” said Tax Directorate spokesperson Gabriela Dianová, as quoted by SITA.
According to Dianová, by using the eTax application, the tax directorate simplified not only its electronic but also its written communication. The overall number of tax returns completed via eTax, then printed and sent by mail reached 242,000.
Nevertheless, the eTax application represents only one of the first steps in creating an electronic communication system between the tax administration and citizens and entrepreneurs.
Securing comprehensive digitalisation of tax administration and creating a unified system of taxes, customs duties and payroll levies collection is one of the main goals of the government’s UNITAS project for the 2011-2013 period.
