Doctors’ union says it will seek parliamentary action to stop hospital transformations

Slovakia’s trade union of doctors (LOZ) called on parliament to halt the upcoming transformation of state hospitals into joint-stock companies via new legislation, the TASR newswire reported, with LOZ chairman Marián Kollár saying that since the fallen government cannot provide any guarantees regarding the upcoming transformation process it would be immoral for it to seek to continue the process. The LOZ head reiterated that the doctors have not changed their demands in response to the fall of Iveta Radičová's government especially regarding the transformation of hospitals and their demand for better salaries. Kollár said most doctors who have submitted notices of termination of their employment contracts do not intend to withdraw their notices. The chair of parliament’s health committee, Viliam Novotný (SDKÚ), told TASR that doctors should follow the action of teachers and refrain from their protest activities in the face of the current political situation.
