As of the beginning of next year, 157,331 policyholders will switch to another public health insurance company, an increase of 94 percent compared to last year. Head of the Healthcare Surveillance Authority (ÚDZS) Ján Gajdoš, said on Thursday, November 3, that the office registered a total of 162,399 applications to switch insurance providers but later declined around 5,000 because of various flaws.
The portfolio of private health insurance company Dôvera will increase by 40,974 new policyholders and its counterpart Union, which is also privately owned, will register 20,567 more clients, the TASR newswire wrote. By contrast, the state-run run health insurer Všeobecná Zdravotná Poisťovňa (VZP) will lose 75,693 people to the other two health insurers, while 14,152 policyholders will join it. Gajdoš attributed the shift away from VZP to its economic results.
