Slovakia may lose the right to draw some of the money allocated to it from EU structural funds if it does not rectify problems that have been identified, the SITA newswire wrote. The European Commission raised concerns about implementation of five of Slovakia’s eleven operational programmes based on the results of recent audits.
SITA wrote that it had received information on November 7 from the Permanent Representation of Slovakia to the European Union that Brussels has decided to halt interim payments made to the operational programmes for the Environment and Informatisation of Society.
Future payments will remain suspended until the applicable government bodies implement the remedial measures that are recommended by the European Commission in its audit reports.
SITA added that funds may also be stopped in the Transport, Employment and Social Inclusion and Education operational programmes if certain failures are not corrected within the set deadlines.
