Western SLOVAKIABratislava TENIS: The 4th year of the Tennis Classic will welcome, for the first time, the current world women’s tennis number one, Caroline Wozniacki, who will compete with Slovak star Dominika Cibulková. It promises to be a dramatic match, as their record so far in 2011 is 2:1 in Cibulková’s favour. The exhibition will also bring tennis showmen Henri Leconte and Mansour Bahrami (above), who previously visited Bratislava in 2009. This time round they will appear in the National Tennis Centre Sibamac Aréna, Príkopova 6, on November 21 at 18:30. Tickets cost from €29 and are available through www.ticketportal.sk. Bratislava Bratislava LIVE MUSIC: Wilsonic Club: Jono McCleery – This London-based artist, whose first album was self-produced in 2008 after being funded by fans, comes to Bratislava to present his music. Bratislava MODERN DANCE: Compagnie Pál Frenák (France / Hungary): Twins, InTimE – Choreographed by Pál Frenák to the music of Gilles Gauvin (and Attila Gergely in the second piece), the works of this ensemble show the phenomenon of twins and the contradictions of loneliness, desire, happiness and fulfilment, as expressed in modern scenic dance. Bratislava LIVE MUSIC/DANCE: Vášne duše - Passions of the Soul - Musical-dance project of the Academy of Performing arts combines instrumental music, singing, and dance; the music is composed by French Baroque composer Jean Philippe Rameau. Trenčín MUSIC FESTIVAL: Pohoda Indoor Camping Festival – The popular open-air summer music festival Pohoda has grown so successful that now it is offering for the first time an indoor winter edition on four stages, including artists like Hadouken!, Sophie Barker, Kroke, Zapaska; Mňága a Žďorp, Púlnoc, as well as Slovak performers Le Payaco, Ink Midget a Pjoni, Got Blue Balls, Marián Varga a Noneto, afterPhurikane, Puding pani Elvisovej, Longital, and others. Nitra FILM FESTIVAL: Vysoké hory Nitra - High Mountains Nitra - The 6th year of the festival bringing documentaries concerning mountains, expeditions, climbing and nature also presents lectures, disucssions, presentations, and a photo-exhibition. Nitra Concert:Chassidic songs / Chasidské piesne as performed by Bratislava’s Rabbi Baruch Myers (piano, vocals, center), Jozef Lupták (cello, right), Boris Lenko (accordion), and Miloš Valent (violin, left) emphasise the classical Jewish music that tries to speak to people without words, using only melodies. Where there are lyrics, they come from psalms and stories. The group will play in Košice (in the historical Town Hall) on November 23 and in Nitra synagogue on November 22 at 18:00. Rimavská Sobota CLASSICAL MUSIC: Komorný klavírny koncert / Chamber Piano Concert – The 200th anniversary of the birth of Franz Liszt and the 100th anniversary of the birth of Slovak composer Ján Cikker will be commemorated by a piano recital by Zuzana Niederdorfer-Paulechová and Eva Kosorínová, playing – as well as Liszt and Cikker – Schumann, Schubert and Moritz Moszkowski. Eastern SLOVAKIAKošice MUSICAL: Krysař / Rat-Catcher – The classical fairy tale has gained a new meaning and symbolism in the version adapted by Czech musician Daniel Landa. With its more than 1,000 re-runs, it ranks among the most successful and popular Czech musicals. Apart from an exhibition of his work, the festival also brings a video-screening on November 25 at 18:00 by Ján Šicko, plus a concert by the Veni Ensemble.
