Western SLOVAKIA Bratislava CONCERT: The PETJAZZ festival, now in its 11th year, presents Asguests (Miro Herák on vibraphone and Mišo Vaňouček on piano) featuring Oskar Rózsa and Martin Valihora, and the Joris Roelofs Trio featuring Matt Penman (on bass) and Ted Poor (on drums). The concert, on December 1 at 20:00 in Klub za Zrkadlom, Rovniankova 3, Bratislava, promises “concentrated jazz enjoyment”. Bratislava FILM FESTIVAL: Jeden svet / One World – The civic association Človek v ohrození (People in Peril) has this year given its regular film festival the leitmotif Svet v sieti / World in Net(work). It offers more than 60 documentaries, discussions, workshops and accompanying events focused on foreign cultures, multiculturalism, and more. Starts: Nov 29-Dec 4; various sites. Bratislava REGGAE FESTIVAL: Uprising winter edition – After its successful summer events, this reggae festival aims to warm up winter for the second consecutive year, this time bringing controversial Jamaican star and self-proclaimed ‘King of the Dancehall’ Beenie Man, with his Zagga Zow Band, and also Medial Banana (from Slovakia), Ziggi Recado (from the Netherlands) and several DJs. Bratislava MUSIC FESTIVAL: Next – The 12th year of this “festival of advanced music” brings several premieres, top musicians (from several countries, including the UK, Korea, Latvia and Sweden and progressive trends over three days. Bratislava MILITARY DOG COURSE: Dog military parkur – This new discipline, in which the dog handler must complete an obstacle course with his/her dog, is the subject of this public performance and competition. Bratislava EXHIBITION: Milan Paštéka - Z tvorby / From his Works – Paštéka was an important Slovak visual artist and would have celebrated his 80th birthday this year. Nitra FOREIGN CONVERSATION: Jazyková kaviareň / Language Café – Once a month, visitors to the café can debate various topics in foreign languages, including English, with their lecturers or without them. Central SLOVAKIA Zvolen Špirály a Pulzary / Spirals and Pulsars, an exhibition in the picturesque setting of the Severozápadná bašta / North-Western Bastion of Zvolen Castle, brings the most recent works and experiments by Slovak artist Marko Vrzgula. It can be viewed until December 4, Wednesdays to Sundays from 10:00 to 17:00 for free.
Banská Bystrica CLASSICAL MUSIC: Banskobystrická hudobná jeseň 2011 / Banská Bystrica Musical Autumn – In the latest of a series of events, this music festival invites the Slovak Sinfonietta Žilina to play Mozart, Brahms, and Schubert. Žilina EXHIBITION: Zlá spoloč– nosť / Bad Society – This politically engaged exhibition, being held in a new space, is part of the Memory Kontrol festival and portrays issues like the division of Czechoslovakia, Mečiarism, engaged art, protest, nationalism, politics and humour as perceived by P.
