Prime Minister Iveta Radičová, who dismissed Defence Minister Ľubomír Galko, has now made a change in the top position of the Military Defence Intelligence (VOS) by naming Róbert Tibenský to replace Pavol Brychta, the TASR newswire reported on December 2.
Brychta was appointed as director of the military counter-intelligence unit in February 2011. After information surfaced that journalists had been wiretapped in November, Brychta was the first person to confirm to MPs that the information on eavesdropping had been true, telling the MPs that VOS had started the wiretapping because of suspected leaks of information from the Defence Ministry.
Brychta and other unspecified people have been released from the obligation to maintain confidentiality in order to provide testimony in the investigation.
“They need to be available for an investigation into the wiretapping case,” Radičová said, as quoted by TASR.
The prime minister, who is serving as the temporary head of the Defence Ministry, also ordered all ongoing processes at the Defence Ministry, including public tenders and signing agreements, to be halted, adding that she will have to approve all decisions made by the ministry in the future.
