The former mayor of Košice, František Knapík from the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) and one other former city official have been accused of illegal acts in public procurement, the Sme daily reported.
An investigator from the Office for Fight against Corruption charged them with breaking the law in connection with a city commission to a private firm from Bratislava that provided external consultancy to the city government in 2009. The consultancy involved acquisition of buses using EU funds, the Sme daily wrote on December 5.
The Office for Fight against Corruption said that the only criterion in the tender was best price but the city did not pick the Kosice-based company with the cheapest bid but rather the one from the Bratislava company with an offer €67,000 higher.
Sme also reported that the contract included a four-percent bonus, reportedly at odds with the original tender offer.
