Fico to pay his first foreign visit since re-election to Czech Republic
11 Apr 2012 Flash News
Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer) will pay his first foreign visit, set for Friday, April 20, to the Czech Republic, in what has become a tradition for incoming Slovak leaders. Smer spokesman Erik Tomáš confirmed the plan on Tuesday, April 10, but did not reveal any further details of Fico’s itinerary, the TASR newswire reported.
Fico chose the Czech Republic as the destination for his first foreign visit in 2006, when he took up the post of prime minister for the first time. Back then, Fico met with his Czech counterpart Jiří Paroubek at the castle in Koledeje, close to Prague, in order to discuss bilateral relations between Slovakia and the Czech Republic and prospects for mutual co-operation. The Slovak premier was also received by Czech President Václav Klaus in 2006.
