The northern bypass around Banská Bystrica is to be opened on July 27 as the fourth section of the R1-PR1BINA expressway, the TASR newswire reported.

"Our thanks go to all those who have put up with the construction bustle and to the whole team that carried out the construction work regardless of the weather," said Eric Genetre, the director of the contractor, Granvia.

The R1 expressway Nitra-Tekovské Nemce and the Banská Bystrica northern bypass is the first PPP project of such a large extent in Slovakia's history. The construction work was carried out via the contractor, which provided the financing and construction work and will operate and maintain the four sections for 30 years.

A public event featuring cultural and educational programmes has been prepared by Granvia Construction for people from Banská Bystrica who want to celebrate the opening on Friday.
