Benkovičová re-appointed as Statistics Office head
9 Aug 2012 Flash News
President Ivan Gašparovič re-appointed Ľudmila Benkovičová as head of the Statistics Office (ŠÚ) on Wednesday, August 8, the TASR newswire reported, citing the President's Office.
Benkovičová will serve in the role for another five years. It is her second term; her first expired on February 15. The same person can hold the post for only two successive terms.
Gašparovič re-appointed Benkovičová to the post based on a proposal by the ruling Smer party, the Sme daily wrote in its Thursday issue, adding that she will lead the statistics authority for a second term despite its failures during the census in May 2011. Former interior minister Daniel Lipšic, who reproached the ŠÚ for using outdated maps and doubted the anonymity of the count, is not surprised by Smer’s decision; he said that he does not think the current government will focus on expertise when it comes to making nominations to public positions.
