A woman died after being attacked by a pit bull bred in the village of Sucháň, in the Veľký Krtíš district. This was the second case of a dog attack on a person reported during the past week, the SITA newswire reported on August 19.
The dog is owned by a Swiss citizen who breeds about 20 other pit bulls in a house in the village. Two other people, the deceased woman and her spouse, cared for the dogs when he was not present, said the mayor of the village, Anna Triznová, as quoted by SITA. She added that the woman took the dog for a walk even though the Swiss owner prohibited her from doing so.
The village is now considering amending its laws for keeping and breeding dogs. Triznová said that they want to prepare new measures in cooperation with the State Veterinary, which might also send the recommendations to other municipalities, SITA reported on August 20.
A similar case occurred in Dunajská Lužná, near Bratislava, on August 15, when three dogs attacked a 39-year-old photographer. He had to be transported to a hospital where he underwent surgery, SITA wrote.
