Slovak President Ivan Gašparovič is due to lead the Slovak delegation at the 67th United Nations General Assembly session in New York as part of his upcoming visit to the US between September 22 and 27, the TASR newswire reported, citing presidential spokesperson Marek Trubač.
During his visit, Gašparovič is expected to meet UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to discuss Ban's agenda for his second five-year tenure. The president will also speak about the active contribution of Slovak diplomatic personnel towards meeting UN goals, and will lobby on behalf of the setting up of a UN regional centre for women's issues in Bratislava, aimed mainly at the elimination of discrimination against women and girls.
Gašparovič also plans to meet members of the Slovak community living in the USA at the Festival of Slovak Heritage in New Jersey on September 23.
