Pollák approved as new government proxy for Roma communities
27 Sep 2012 Flash News
Ordinary People and Independent Personalities (OĽaNO) MP Peter Pollák will become the new government proxy for Roma communities as of October 1 following a government decision at a session held in Michalovce, eastern Slovakia, on Wednesday, September 26.
Pollák will replace his namesake Miroslav Pollák, the TASR newswire wrote. Prime Minister Robert Fico recently heralded plans to transfer the Proxy Office's headquarters to the eastern Slovak town of Spišská Nová Ves (in eastern Slovakia) so that it will be closer to mayors who most often deal with Roma issues (as most Roma settlements are located in eastern parts of the country).
Pollák, who is the only ethnic Roma MP in the current parliament, will take up the post in line with an offer made by the governing Smer party to OĽaNO. OĽaNO has drawn up a reform aimed at the Roma community that comprises 89 measures. In tandem with Smer, the initiatives are to be unveiled on October 15.
Meanwhile, the cabinet recalled the government proxy for a knowledge-based economy, Martin Bruncko, who will leave the post at the end of this month.
