MSM Martin will become new strategic partner of VOP Nováky
3 Oct 2012 Flash News
MSM Martin has won the tender to rent the premises of Vojenský Opravárenský Podnik (VOP) in Nováky, which mainly handles the disposal of old ammunition. The company will pay €240,000 per year to use VOP’s sites for 20 years and an additional €10,000 for its inventory, the SITA newswire reported.
“We defused a time bomb at the last possible moment,” said Defence Minister Martin Glváč, as quoted by SITA, adding that the winning firm will create 140 new jobs.
Glváč also said its bid was three times better than the next best highest.
VOP, which is owned by the Defence Ministry, dismantles old ammunition, manufactures munitions and prolongs the lifespan of ammunition. In addition, the company also has some civilian production. However, it has suffered from the economic crisis and recent cuts to the defence budget.
