Vladimír Skalský re-elected as head of Association of Slovaks Abroad
2 Nov 2012 Flash News
The World Association of Slovaks Living Abroad, which consists of 98 organisations from 23 countries, re-elected Vladimír Skalský to its top post for another three years at its general assembly in Bratislava on Thursday, November 1. The 17-member general board was also elected, with members coming from the US, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Serbia, Croatia, Romania, Poland, Ukraine, Switzerland and Great Britain.
The general assembly welcomed the personnel changes at the helm of the Office for Slovaks Living Abroad, the TASR newswire wrote. Conversely, the association is troubled by changes to the residence act, which makes life particularly difficult for ethnic Slovaks living in Ukraine and Serbia, and listed TV broadcasting about Slovaks abroad, the fight against assimilation and voting from abroad via the internet among its other priorities.
