Stats Office: Harmonised inflation was 3.4 percent in December

Inflation measured according to the EU-wide Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices methodology, reached 3.4 percent year-on-year in December 2012, falling by 0.1 percent on a monthly basis, the Slovak Statistics Office (ŠÚ) reported on Wednesday, January 16.
Average harmonised inflation stood at 3.7 percent year-on-year during the 12 months to December, the TASR newswire reported, citing the ŠÚ. Month-on-month developments were mainly affected by lower prices in transport (down 0.07 percentage points), in alcoholic beverages and tobacco (down 0.01 percentage points) and in clothing and footwear (down 0.01 percentage points). Prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages rose by 0.03 percentage points, while prices for non-alcoholic beverages posted a drop of 0.02 percentage points.
