Slovak customs officers seize contraband cigarettes worth €35 million
23 Jan 2013 Flash News
Customs officers in Galanta have seized contraband cigarettes reportedly worth €35 million, TV Markíza reported on January 21.
“Custom officers of the Financial Administration [FA] have seized four [truckloads] of cigarettes to prevent the potential evasion from excise tax on tobacco products,” FA spokesperson Miroslava Slemenská told the reporters.
TV Markíza speculated that there might be even more trucks with such cigarettes, which were reportedly brought from Italy.
The custom officers did not want to talk about the origins of the seized goods, nor their owner. More information will be revealed on January 28, TV Markíza reported.
