Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák met with his Iranian counterpart Ali Akbar Salehim to talk about Matej Valuch, detained for alleged espionage, the SITA newswire reported on February 3.

“The content of their talks was primarily the resolution of the case of the detained Slovak in Iran,” said the press department of the Slovak Foreign Affairs Ministry, as quoted by SITA.

Iran suspects Valuch of violating national security, claiming he was allegedly working as a CIA agent, which he confessed in a video called ‘Hunter in Trap [sic]’, filmed by the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence. The man’s family does not believe that he is involved in espionage. He is rather believed to have become a victim of Iranian propaganda.

Meanwhile, the Slovak consul in Tehran met with Valuch in prison. Though he did not reveal any details, he said that Valuch was all right, SITA wrote.
