Aktualne.sk: ÚVO halted shady tender at Interior Ministry
19 Feb 2013 Flash News
The Public Procurement Office (ÚVO) halted a tender at the Interior Ministry worth €720,000 (with VAT) for preferential treatment of one of the bidders, the aktualne.sk news website reported on Saturday, February 16.
The Interior Ministry announced the tender on delivery of an early warning system last summer. One of the unsuccessful bidders complained to the ÚVO, which launched a probe. According to the results of the inspection, the ministry violated the principles of equal treatment and non-discrimination, and economic efficiency.
One problem concerned the ministry's requirement for bidders to present a functioning model of a communication unit – with a siren – that would be compatible with the existing system. The Interior Ministry, however, did not provide the bidders with sufficient information concerning the original system. "It [the Interior Ministry] gave clear preferential treatment to the provider of the original system ... while no other bidder would be able to present an appropriate bid based on the available information," said ÚVO.
