Five thieves cut off the electricity supply to an entire village, Lentvora in Banská Bystrica Region, when they stole valuable copper wire from a local power transformer in February.

The TASR newswire quoted Banská Bystrica Regional Police spokesperson Mária Faltániová as saying that at around 15:00 on Saturday, February 9, a group of five people committed the theft, causing damage to the transformer estimated at €1,000. Lentvora remained without electricity, in freezing weather overnight, until the following day.

The perpetrators were apprehended after a police dog followed their scent to the nearby village of Ľuboreč, where police found two of them, who promptly confessed and named their accomplices. If found guilty, the three adult suspects face up to eight years in prison, while the two minors in the group face up to four years in detention.
