Police say family friend planned to kidnap boy and demand €100,000
4 Mar 2013 Flash News
The National Criminal Agency successfully thwarted the kidnapping of a seven-year-old boy which was planned by 41-year-old Pavol O, the police have alleged. The man, described as a close friend of the boy’s family, reportedly planned to demand €100,000 from his parents as ransom. The boy is the son of a businessman from the Bratislava area, the TASR newswire reported on March 1.
Pavol O. has now been charged with planned kidnapping and extortion, and could face 12 to 20 years in prison if found guilty. According to the police, he wanted to involve another person as his partner-in-crime, and together they planned to obtain cars, walkie-talkies, jammers, weapons and mobile phones to carry out the crime. They intended to start a fire at the company owned by the boy’s father in order to lure both parents out of their house, after which the boy was to be kidnapped and driven to a location in Hungary, the police allege.
Apart from the kidnapping attempt, Pavol O. is also accused of fraud, TASR wrote.
