5 Mar 2013 Flash News
A 14-year-old boy was killed when a helicopter carrying four people crashed in the Váh River near Galanta (in Trnava region) on Sunday, March 3 afternoon, the TASR newswire learned from Zuzana Farkasová of the Presidium of the Fire and Rescue Brigade (HaZZ) on Sunday. The other three passengers were admitted to hospitals in Galanta and Trnava.
Upon impact with the ground, the helicopter, which was used for sightseeing tours, broke into two parts. Late in the evening on Sunday, fire fighters managed to drag one of the two parts from the river to the bank after a strong current carried it away.
Out of the six people onboard the helicopter, two were transported to the hospital in a medical helicopter, one in an ambulance and two were treated on the banks of the Váh. The boy was found dead after resuscitation attempts failed.
The investigator of criminal police from Galanta opened a prosecution concerning the transgression of death. The other passengers, a woman, 21, from Banská Bystrica, a man, 42, from Senica, and the pilot, 40, from Bratislava, suffered minor injuries. The Trnava regional police spokesperson Michal Hanus told TASR, adding that no alcohol was found in the pilot’s system. The material damage amounted to at least €40,000.
