6 Mar 2013 Flash News
Prime Minister Robert Fico is set to attend a Visegrad Group (V4) summit in Warsaw on Wednesday, March 6 which will also be attended by German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande, the TASR newswire reported, citing the Government Office press department.
The meeting of the prime ministers of the V4 members (Slovakia, Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary) is taking place as part of Poland's one-year presidency of the organisation. The debate in Warsaw will focus on the current agenda of the EU, including preparations for the European Council session set to take place later in March. Polish Premier Donald Tusk will inform his Visegrad partners about the key-activities plan for the latter part of the Polish presidency.
The topics at the broader summit with Merkel and Hollande will include economic competitiveness in Europe, the future of the Economic and Monetary Union, and the results of a recent working meeting of V4 defence ministers concerning current issues relating to common security and defence policy. The talks will also deal with opportunities for using the EU's multi-year financial framework as a tool to tackle the current economic situation.
