Consumer prices up by 2.2 percent year-on-year in February

Consumer prices rose by 2.2 percent in the year to February, with no change on a monthly basis, the Slovak Statistics Office (ŠÚ) announced on Wednesday, March 13. Core inflation was 2.5 percent year-on-year, while net inflation stood at 1.8 percent.
No month-on-month changes in prices were seen in the following sectors: alcoholic beverages and tobacco; housing, electricity, gas and other fuels; transport; postal and telecommunications services; and hotels, cafes and restaurants. Prices did rise on a month-on-month basis in education (0.3 percent), in miscellaneous goods and services (0.2 percent), in health care, and in recreation and culture (0.1 percent), the TASR newswire quoted the ŠÚ as saying. The most significant monthly drop in prices was observed in clothing and footwear (0.8 percent).
