Men who shot Austrian with Slovak business ties remain at large
17 Jul 2013 Flash News
A 49-year-old Austrian man who was shot on July 15 on the A4 Austrian highway, close to the Vienna-Schwechat international airport, is of Georgian origin and lives in Vienna, the TASR newswire wrote. He was heading to Vienna from Slovakia in a Mercedes with a Slovak license plate when he was forced by his assailants to pull over, after which they shot him.
He sustained an injury to his thigh and was flown to the Vienna-Meidling hospital. His current state is unknown.
The police launched a search for the gunmen on Monday. The attackers approached the victim donning masks and allegedly told him – in Russian – that this was a nice greeting from his acquaintance, then fled in a dark limousine, possibly a BMW.
The victim was identified by the Pravda and Plus jeden deň dailies as Aaron Shatashvili, an entrepreneur in the construction sector, with business ties in Slovakia. He is alleged to have encountered problems with Slovak authorities in connection with his business activities there.
