4 Sep 2013 Flash News
Bratislava-based carmaker Volkswagen Slovakia placed highest of the 29 Slovak companies included in Deloitte’s latest list of Central and Eastern Europe’s 500 largest companies. Compared to previous years the number of firms from Slovakia dropped by two, the TASR newswire reported on September 3.
“Volkswagen Slovakia has retained its leading spot from among Slovak companies,” Deloitte said, as quoted by TASR, adding it placed 14th overall.
Slovak oil refinery Slovnaft occupied the 23rd spot, whilst Žilina-based carmaker Kia Motors was 31st.
The 500 largest companies struggled to keep up earlier rates of growth, as it dropped from 9.8 percent in 2011 to 3.3 percent in 2012. Total revenues amounted to €730 billion, according to TASR.
“Notwithstanding the unfavourable economic situation, however, some Top 500 companies posted a double-digit increase in revenues,” the Deloitte report reads, as quoted by TASR.
As was the case with previous editions of the ranking, Poland had the largest number of companies in the list: 166. It was followed by the Czech Republic with 86 listings and by Hungary with 62, TASR reported.
